The Bucharest elections must be organized as soon as possible, but LEGALLY, so as not to be annulled later by the courts!
Respecting the Constitution, its supremacy and the laws is mandatory for everyone, including the Government! The Bucharest Court of Appeal decided yesterday, November 18, 2025, to reject the requests to suspend and annul Government Decisions no. 890 and 891/23.10.2025, filed in accordance with the law by Mr. Cătălin Dima, Romanian citizen, lawyer, founder of the civic initiative “BA DA, PUTEM!” (“YES, WE CAN!”).
These government decisions were issued in flagrant violation of the law, namely at least of the legal obligation of transparency in law-making, not being subject to public decisional consultation for even 5 minutes!
We will challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision before the High Court of Cassation and Justice, which we await to be communicated to us with its reasoning in due time, so that we can effectively exercise our right of free access to justice.
As a voice from civil society, we firmly demand that the elections for mayors and presidents of county and local councils be organized in two rounds, so that the Romanian people can have the sense that these local officials are truly representative!
